Anne Gahart, a senior at Homestead High School in Cupertino, has been crowned Miss Silicon Valley 2014 and will soon compete in the Miss California pageant, a precursor to the Miss America pageant.
Homestead High School staff members who knew about Anne’s vivacious and positive personality, generous heart, and commitment to causes larger than herself suggested that Anne compete for the Miss Silicon Valley title. This was Anne’s first pageant experience and she was drawn to the contest because of the scholarship opportunities and the integrity of the sponsoring organization. Although not unprecedented, it is somewhat unusual for a high school senior to be selected for this prestigious title as the crown normally is awarded to young women with college experience. A tap dancer since the third grade, Anne performed a tap dance for the talent portion of the pageant.
In addition to being crowned Miss Silicon Valley 2014, Anne was selected by the other contestants as Miss Congeniality and also chosen as the contestant with the best interview and she was awarded $2,700 in scholarships. These funds will come in handy as Anne hopes to attend college overseas in England or Scotland, or in California or New York.
Anne is the ASB president at Homestead High School and has been involved in leadership throughout her high school years including roles as a social manager, rally commissioner, and freshman class social manager and she has also been a member of the Intra District Council of the FUHSD. Anne has been an active member of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) as well as the French National Honor Society. Committed to the promotion of animal adoption and the rescue of animals, Anne has volunteered with Doggie Protective Services since she was a high school freshman and is passionate about this cause. Anne is continuing her support of this important area in her role as Miss Silicon Valley 2014.
